When we think about the Middle Ages, the image of a jester springs to mind: this emblematic character is one of the clichés associated with the medieval world. In this program, we reflect on the public and private voices of these artists: how does it feel to be on such thin ice, navigating between the role of entertaining and the risks one takes when criticizing others? When does the jester know where to push boundaries or know with whom he can take off his mask? What happens when a jester is alone?

With origin in the sacred world and its mysticism, the jester becomes a political and social figure in the fourteenth century. In opposition to royal wisdom, his word is ironic, critical, insolent, and, most importantly, accepted. We can find similarities in musical works and the repertoire selected presents pieces which stand out through moralistic and commentative texts paired with humorous rhetorics.

Through our program, we aim to trace a portrait of an imaginary jester, through a selection of deep and refined madrigals, filled with metaphors, but also simpler songs in which quick wittiness overpowers any other aspect.

Mediaeval troubadour lyrics with witty new illustrations‘In jest, the fool tells the truth’, says the proverb. Concertgebouw Maker Anna Danilevskaia and Sollazzo Ensemble illustrate how that worked in the late Middle Ages: criticism from under the fool's hood could be sharp, but it was elegantly wrapped in melodious polyphony. Young Belgian illustrator Chrostin underpins the programme with her drawings.

Das LandesJugendOrchester Rheinland-Pfalz vereint die besten musikalischen Nachwuchstalente des Bundeslandes. Für das Benefizkonzert konnte als Solistin die Sopranistin Carine Tinney und als Dirigent Anton Legkii gewonnen werden. Carine Tinney wurde bereits mit einer Vielzahl an Preisen ausgezeichnet und war u.a. bereits in der Berliner Philharmonie zu hören. Auch Anton Legkii ist bereits mit internationalen Erfolgen und Preisen gekrönt.
Mit „Prélude à l´après-midi d´un faune" hat Debussy ein impressionistisches Meisterwerk geschaffen, das eine träumerische Szenerie malt. Romantische Lieder für Sopran und Orchester von Franz Schubert weisen eine meisterhafte Poesie auf, die sich in der Musik durch starke emotionale Tiefe widerspiegelt. Die sehr zugängliche vierte Sinfonie von Gustav Mahler im 2. Konzertteil verdeutlicht den symphonischen Stil des Komponisten, gepaart mit der Liebe zur Volksmusik. Das krönende Ende seiner Sinfonie bezeichnet Mahler mit „Das himmlische Leben“.

Um Spenden für den Kinderschutzbund wird am Konzertende gebeten. Die Kosten für das Konzert werden durch KSB und das Congressforum Frankenthal übernommen, sodass der volle Erlös dem Kinderschutzbund zur Verfügung gestellt werden kann.

Per un Bacio ist ein Zusammenspiel von verschiedenen Kunstformen: Musik, Tanz und Live-Projektion. Egal, ob frühes 17. Jahrhundert oder heute – Liebesgeschichten ändern sich nie.

 Zusammen mit der Tänzerin Nele Hermann und dem Videokünstler Sebastian Palzhoff haben Carine Tinney und Franco Pavan ein Programm mit Musik von Barbara Strozzi (1619 - 1677) Johann Hieronymus Kapsberger (1580 – 1651) und Francesca Caccini (1587 - 1641) zusammengestellt, um eine Geschichte von unerwiderter Liebe zu erzählen: vom romantischen Anwachsen über die Ablehnung bis hin zur Akzeptanz des Alleinseins – das Duo zeigt die verborgenen Schätze dieser beiden Komponistinnen. Die Handkamera fängt intime Nahaufnahmen der Künstler:innen ein und wirft diese Bilder live und verfremdet auf eine Projektionsfläche hinter das Geschehen.

Die Magnificat-Vertonung (C-Dur, ZWV 107) gehört zum Bestand von weit über 30 Psalm- und Magnificat-Vertonungen Zelenkas für die Dresdner Vespergottesdienste. Zelenkas erstaunlich originelle Musik lässt ihn als singulären Komponisten seiner Zeit aus der Reihe seiner barocken Zeitgenossen herausragen. Kühne Harmonien, vertrackte Rhythmen und starke dynamische Kontraste zeichnen seine Simphonie à 8 concertanti in a-Moll, ZWV 189 aus. Auf Antonio Vivaldis Psalmvertonung Laudate Dominum RV 606 und seiner Kyrie-Vertonung RV 587 folgt eines seiner sicherlich attraktivsten Chorwerke, das Gloria in D-Dur RV 589. Es gehört zu den prächtigsten Werken des Komponisten. In seiner kontrastreichen Vielfalt und in seiner klaren Struktur gehört es zu den Geniestreichen geistlicher Musik, ein großartiges Chorwerk mit solistischen Sätzen, in dem der Chor aber der zentrale Träger des musikalischen Geschehens ist.

King Arthur and his associate Merlin have caused much ink to flow, but under the pen of John Dryden and with the music of Henry Purcell their story takes an entirely new turn. The text retraces the chapter in British history in which the Saxons, seeking to reconquer their territory, attack the Britons on St George’s Day. In absolute terms, the subject is the forces of Nature challenged by human stupidity: possession, gain and wickedness. King Arthur enjoyed such success that it was regularly revived in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Here Vox Luminis presents it in a new light. Wild and gentle, the beings ‘without being’ hide in the enchanted forest and sing of love, sunlight on moss and the awakening of the senses, and caress the traveller’s skin with their voices.
